Columbia, MD (November 5, 2012)—Vasoptic Medical, Inc., a Maryland-based start-up medical device company, today announced that it has joined the Maryland Center for Entrepreneurship, a technology incubator developed by the Howard County Economic Development Authority to ignite innovation and launch high-growth, technology-based companies in an entrepreneurial ecosystem.
“As a co-founder of Vasoptic Medical with life-long ties to Howard County, I am excited to be a part of the Maryland Center for Entrepreneurship,” said M. Jason Brooke, MSE, JD, Vasoptic Medical’s COO, GC, and VP of R&D. “The Center’s diverse group of experienced entrepreneurs will, no doubt, support Vasoptic Medical as it strives to bring novel medical diagnostic technologies to market.” As an initial clinical target, the company is developing a low-cost, mobile solution for the early diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy—a medical condition that afflicts nearly 1 in 3 diabetes patients and results in severe vision impairment and blindness.
“Vasoptic Medical is exactly the type of company we, at the Center, are excited to work with,” said Julie Lenzer Kirk, Executive Director of the Maryland Center for Entrepreneurship. “The Vasoptic team is highly motivated and uniquely positioned to bring a promising new medical technology to market, and we’re happy to help them do it here in Maryland.”
